Fire destroys Cherry Creek home overnight, no injuries reported...
Several Chautauqua and Cattaraugus County fire departments battled flames that destroyed a home early this morning in the town of Cherry Creek. Chautauqua County fire dispatchers say Cherry Creek firefighters were called to the scene at 6630 Main St. just after Midnight. Officials say mutual aid was also called in from Ellington, Conewango, Randolph, Leon, Forestville, Sunset Bay, and South Dayton. Fire investigators were called in shortly before 1 a.m. to look for the cause... which remains under investigation. No injuries were reported.
Freezer compressor stolen, vandalized at St. Susan's Center...
Vandals have gutted the compressor system for the huge freezer used at the Jamestown-area's largest soup kitchen. Officials with the St. Susan's Center say someone broke into to the Water Street location about 5:30 a.m. Sunday and "completely gutted the system... " which is essential to storing the food that helps fulfill their mission. Officials add that the theft has had "a significant impact on our operations and our ability to serve those who rely on us." However... they add that they have had an "amazing response from the community." They especially thanked Jamestown Ice & Storage for quickly stepping up to help save the produce and meat that could be preserved. They also thanked the many local food pantries that came forward to take and distribute food that we were unable to transport. They also thanked Lindsey Refrigeration in Northeast, Pa. and Ben Weitsman Recycling Center for their quick response. Pa. woman arrested for allegedly trying to use rock to smash out windows at downtown Jamestown business...
A Pennsylvania woman has been arrested for allegedly trying to smash out the windows of a business in downtown Jamestown early Sunday morning. Police add that 33 year-old Eve Yea also allegedly assaulted an arresting officer. Police were called to the scene just after 2:30 a.m. for an unwanted female... and say Yea with a large rock in her hand. Officers tried to intervene... but, say she failed to comply. Police then tried to take Yea into custody... however... she resisted arrest... and, assaulted the officers. She was charged with second-degree assault... obstruction... and, resisting arrest.
Ecklund says 2027 budget process well underway in Jamestown...
The city of Jamestown is about half-way through initial discussions with department heads about their budgets in 2027. However... Mayor Kim Ecklund is cautioning not to read too much into the numbers this early in the process. Ecklund updated the City Council this past week on where the process is... which is being headed early on by Comptroller Ericka Thomas. She says Phase-one is mainly department head "wish lists" to determine what's needed, and what isn't. Ecklund says the current year's budget is not far off from actual spending... although there are areas of concern with overtime... especially in the fire department. She adds that recent sales tax figures showed the second-quarter brought in about $130,000 more than was budgeted. However... that barely made up for a down first-quarter. Ecklund has to present the new budget by... or on Oct. 8. The City Council then has until December 1st to adopt a new spending plan. Ecklund made her comments for last weekend's "Community Spotlight" program on the six Glenora Radio Network stations.
City woman arrested for allegedly driving with more than two-times the legal limit of alcohol...
A woman from Jamestown has been arrested after allegedly found to be driving with more than two-times the legal limit of alcohol in her system. City police say they stopped 40 year-old Amy Elliott in the area of Cherry and West Seventh Streets just after Midnight Saturday for a traffic violation. Officers say they determined that Elliott was driving drunk and she was taken into custody. She's charged with Aggravated DWI for driving with a blood alcohol content of .18 or higher... and other traffic violations. Ellicott was processed and issued an appearance ticket for City Court.
Jamestown is 2-0 at 13-year-old Babe Ruth World Series, with an off-day today...
The host Jamestown team in the 13-year-old Babe Ruth World Series has it's scheduled day-off today... but, has made headlines in the tournament. The local squad is now 2-0 in the series after beating Westfield, Massachusetts last night, 13-1, in six innings. They won Saturday over Nederland, Texas, 8-2. Play resumed at 11 this morning with Bethel, Conn. taking on Atlantic Shore from Egg Harbor, NJ. There's free admission to ALL the games this week, thanks to several sponsors. Host President Kim Ecklund says the Babe Ruth Committee bought out Friday's games... which will now be a special day for Veteran's... and, to recognize America's 250th birthday. Ecklund says... while admission is free for all games... they especially want veteran's to attend Friday's games at 4:30 and 7 p.m. She adds "what better way to celebrate America's birthday than at a baseball stadium."

Two other teams are 2-0. One is Mililani, Hi... which shut-out Southwest, MO Sunday, 4-0. Tallahassee, Florida also remained unbeaten with the most runs in one game so far, blanking Puerto Rico, 21-0.
