Gillibrand calls on Trump administration to give relief to student loan borrowers in wake of termination of SAVE Plan...
New York's Junior U.S. Senator is renewing her efforts to press the Trump Administration to provide relief to student loan borrowers.  Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand says recent decisions by the administration have left more than 640,000 student loan borrowers in New York state caught in backlogs for both the Income-Driven Repayment... and, Public Service Loan Forgiveness plans... which she says the administration has "mismanaged."  She says the problem has hurt applicants because "interest piles up on their loans in the meantime."  The IDR and PSLF application processing backlog follows the administration’s move earlier this year to terminate the Saving on a Valuable Education -- or SAVE Plan -- which had helped millions of student loan borrowers lower their monthly student loan payments.  She says more than 7-million Americans are being forced into applying for new repayment plans.  Gillibrand is demanding  that Department of Education Secretary Linda McMahon develop a plan to address the student loan backlogs immediately.  She also demanded answers from the department about the impact of these backlogs on New Yorkers.
